- Diplomatic notes for the entry into force of the Agreement between Japan
and the Republic of Uzbekistan for the Liberalisation, Promotion, and Protection
of Investment (Japan-Uzbekistan Investment Agreement) were exchanged in
Tashkent on August 25 (Tuesday), between Mr. Tsutomu Hiraoka, Japanese Ambassador
to the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Mr. Anvar Saidovich Salikhbaev, Deputy
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan. With this exchange
of diplomatic notes, the Agreement will enter into force on September 24
(Thursday), 2009.
- Like other bilateral investment agreements and the investment chapters
in the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) that Japan has concluded in
recent years, Japan-Uzbekistan Investment Agreement contains comprehensive
and detailed provisions concerning the liberalization, promotion, and protection
of investment.
- It is expected that the entry into force of Japan-Uzbekistan Investment Agreement will help promote investments between Japan and Uzbekistan and further strengthen the economic relations between the two countries.
