August 13, 2009
Japanese

  1. The Government of Japan welcomes the adoption of a series of agreements, including the Maputo Political Accord, by the four principal political movements of the Republic of Madagascar, aiming for the restoration of the constitutional order and the democratic system in Madagascar, which has been suffering continual political disorder.

  2. The Government of Japan strongly expects each political movement to continue its efforts toward prompt and faithful implementation of the agreements, based on the spirit of national reconciliation as shown in the agreements.

  3. The Government of Japan highly appreciates the efforts of those involved in the international mediation which resulted in these agreements, including Mr. Joaquim Chissano, Special Mediation Envoy of Southern African Development Community (SADC) to Madagascar (former President of the Republic of Mozambique), the African Union (AU), SADC, the International Organization of la Francophonie (OIF), and the United Nations (UN). Japan continues to support such international mediation efforts.
