Dispatch of Election Observers to the Parliamentary Elections of the Republic of Moldova
July 27, 2009
Japanese
- The Government of Japan has decided to dispatch an election observer
to the International Election Observation Mission of the Organization for
Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) / the Office for Democratic Institutions
and Human Rights (ODIHR) to support fair and democratic conduct of the parliamentary
elections in the Republic of Moldova, which are scheduled for July 29 (Wed).
The observer is dispatched from the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine.
- The upcoming parliamentary elections will be held due to the failure
to designate a new President by the new Parliament convoked after the recent
elections on April 5 this year, which resulted in the dissolution of the
Parliament in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova.
Ensuring free and democratic conduct of the upcoming elections will be extremely
important for stability of the Republic of Moldova, taking into account
the fact that demonstrations of protesters over the result of the previous
elections on April 5 led to violent clashes.
- The Government of Japan has decided to dispatch the two election observers as part of its contribution for democratization and stability in the Republic of Moldova.
