High-Level Officials Group Meeting under the "Japan-U.S. Regulatory Reform and Competition Policy Initiative"

  1. High-Level Officials Group Meeting under the "Japan-U.S. Regulatory Reform and Competition Policy Initiative" will be held on Monday, May 18th (EST) in Washington, D.C.
  2. At the meeting, Mr. Yoichi Suzuki, Director-General of Economic Affairs Bureau, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Ms. Wendy Cutler, assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Japan, Korea and APEC Affairs, will serve as chairs and other representatives from relevant ministries and agencies of both governments will be attending.
  3. In the meeting, both governments will exchange views on regulatory reform of the two countries based on the recommendations presented to each other, following upon the results of each Working Group meeting.

[FYI] "The Japan-U.S. Regulatory Reform and Competition Policy Initiative"

  1. It is one of the fora established under "U.S.-Japan Economic Partnership for Growth" which was announced at the U.S.-Japan summit meeting in June 2001.
  2. Based on consultations in each Working Group and High-Level Officials Group meeting, the Annual Reports to the leaders of the two governments have been compiled. This High-Level Officials Group meeting will discuss issues based on recommendations exchanged in October 2008.
  3. The "New Framework" in the U.S.-Japan economic dialogue with the Obama Administration which will replace the "U.S.-Japan Economic Partnership for Growth" is currently under review, in response to a proposal made by Prime Minister Aso at this year's U.S.-Japan summit meeting on February 24th.
