Japanese
- Japan welcomes that Mr. Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the World Trade
Organization (WTO), was re-elected for his second term on April 30 (Thursday)
(local time) at the General Council of the WTO.
- Japan regards the WTO as the linchpin of its trading policy, and will
continue working closely with Director-General Lamy, as a trade beneficiary
country with a major responsibility and interest in maintaining and reinforcing
multilateral trade system.
Toward early recovery of the world economy, Japan supports Director-General Lamy’s initiative in resisting protectionism and will also cooperate vigorously for development assistance through the WTO.
- As confirmed in the London Summit held in April, a conclusion of the Doha Round negotiations built on the progress already made is urgently needed for which Japan will continue making active efforts.
