Dispatch of Election Observers to the Parliamentary Elections of the Republic of Moldova

- The Government of Japan has decided to dispatch two election observers
to the International Election Observation Mission of the Organization for
Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) / the Office for Democratic Institutions
and Human Rights (ODIHR) to support the fair and democratic conduct of the
parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova, which are scheduled
for April 5 (Sun). The two observers are dispatched from the Embassy of
Japan in Ukraine and the Permanent Mission of Japan to the EU.
- The upcoming parliamentary elections will be held due to the end of
the term (the previous elections were held in March 2005, and the term is
four years). A new president will be elected by the new parliament
which will be convened after the elections.
- The Government of Japan has decided to dispatch the two election observers as part of its contribution for democratization and stability in the Republic of Moldova.
