Statement by the Press Secretary/ Director-general for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Political and Security Situation in the Republic of Madagascar

  1. Japan expresses its concern over the developments in Madagascar, where a change of government is taking place in a manner inconsistent with the constitutional procedures amid the political turmoil that has involved civilians.
     
  2. Japan strongly expects the constitutional order in Madagascar to be restored in accordance with democratic procedures at the earliest opportunity. Japan also urges that all stakeholders work to settle the situation without resorting to violence and that the safety of the civilians be ensured.
