  1. The Government of Japan has decided to extend general project grant aid (the Project for Introduction of Clean Energy by Solar Electricity Generation System) totaling up to 730 million JPY to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. A signing ceremony for the exchange of notes was held on December 14 (Mon) in Tokyo between H.E. Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Dr. Pedro Vaz Ramela, Minister of Foreign Affairs before the Japan-Uruguay Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

  2. This grant aid is for the installation of solar power generation devices (solar panels, transformers, etc.) in Uruguay. It is expected that this project will lead to a reduction of CO2 emissions through a decrease in the amount of fossil fuels being used for power generation. It is also expected that it will promote the use of and education relating to renewable energy among the citizens of Uruguay.

  3. Uruguay has maintained a traditionally friendly relationship with Japan, and has been cooperative with Japan in international fora. Uruguay is making proactive efforts in the renewable energy field, and this grant aid will support those efforts.
