Meeting between Mr. Tetsuro Fukuyama, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Mr. Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia

On December 2 (Wed), Mr. Tetsuro Fukuyama, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for about 30 minutes from 6:25 p.m. Mr. Ould-Abdallah is visiting Japan at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  1. Mr. Fukuyama expressed his high evaluation of efforts made by Mr. Ould-Abdallah towards peace and stability in Somalia, and shared Japan’s commitment for further cooperation. Mr. Fukuyama also conveyed his expectation that effectiveness of the assistance from international community would be improved under the leadership of Mr. Ould-Abdallah.
     
  2. In response, Mr. Ould-Abdallah expressed his gratitude for Japan’s aid to Somalia, and hoped to continue discussion with the Government of Japan regarding the effective means of assistance to Somalia, including the possibility of direct support to the Transitional Federal Government (TFG), for realizing peace and stability in Somalia.
