The 1st Japan-Singapore Counter-Terrorism Dialogue

The 1st Japan-Singapore Counter-Terrorism Dialogue was held in the Republic of Singapore on December 2 (Wed).
Mr. Kiyoshi Araki, Ambassador in Charge of International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representing the Japan side, and Mr. Peter Ho Hak Ean, Permanent Secretary, National Security and Intelligence Coordination, Prime Minister's Office, representing the Singapore side, reconfirmed their commitment to further cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism.
In this first round of the dialogue, both sides exchanged and shared information regarding the current terrorism situation as well as counter-terrorism efforts taken by each country. Both sides recognized that terrorism still posed considerable threats to the international society. They also reaffirmed the necessity of strengthening international counter-terrorism efforts such as capacity building assistance to developing countries as well as counter-radicalization efforts.
Furthermore, Japan and Singapore explained their respective counter-terrorism efforts, and also explored the possibility of their joint cooperation on the specific counter terrorism measures. In this context, taking into account that Japan will chair APEC next year and Singapore chairs it this year, both countries decided to cooperate to hold an APEC Seminar early next year that will focus on how counter-terrorism efforts can help to promote secure trade in the APEC region.
