- The Government of Japan has decided to extend general project grant
aid (Proyecto de construcción de la Nueva Sede del Instituto Nacional
de Rehabilitación “Dra.Adriana Rebaza Flores”) totaling 1.925 billion
JPY to the Republic of Peru. A signing ceremony for the exchange of notes
was held on November 10 (Tue) in Tokyo between H.E. Mr. Shuichiro Megata,
Ambassador of Japan to Peru, and H.E. Sr. Juan Carlos Capuñay Chávez,
Ambassador of Peru to Japan, with H.E. Mr. Hatoyama Yukio, Prime Minister
of Japan, and H.E. Mr. Alan Garcia, President of the Republic of Peru, in
attendance after the Japan-Peru summit meeting.
- Peru and Japan share a traditionally friendly relationship, and Peru
occupies an important political and economic position in Latin America.
Japan is providing assistance for the reduction of poverty and continuous
economic growth, focused mainly on the fields of the protection of socially
disadvantaged people and infrastructure improvement.
- The facilities that are currently being used for the Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitación were originally built as a general hospital in 1936. Aging facilities and their inefficient layout are causing difficulties in providing appropriate treatment. The construction of the new rehabilitation center is expected to improve the standard of medical treatment at the center. Furthermore, this center will be one of the most advanced rehabilitation centers in the Republic of Peru and is expected to have a ripple effect towards other medical facilities and related institutions.
