Statement by the Press Secretary/ Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the Recent Situation in the Republic of Honduras

- The Government of Japan welcomes the fact that the Tegucigalpa-San Jose
Accord, which will lead to the restoration of the constitutional order and
the democratic system in the Republic of Honduras, has been established
through dialogue between representatives of the President of the Republic
of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, and those of “the interim government”.
- The Government of Japan strongly hopes that both parties will continue
making efforts for swift and steady realization and implementation of the
Accord, based on the spirit of the national reconciliation stated in the
Accord.
- The Government of Japan highly appreciates of the efforts of those who played role as mediator for the Accord, including Dr. Oscar Arias, President of Costa Rica, the Organization of American States (OAS), the United Nations and the United States of America. Japan continues to support such efforts of the international community.
