Statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the signing by Czech President for ratification of the Lisbon Treaty

- Japan welcomes the signing by Czech President Vaclav Klaus for ratification
of the Lisbon Treaty on 3 November. We understand that the Lisbon Treaty
will come into effect as soon as the ratification procedure of the Treaty
by 27 member country of the EU will be completed. Japan expects the smooth
transfer of the EU to a new structure under this Treaty.
- Japan and the EU are strategic partners to deal with global challenges together. Japan welcomes a new step of the integration of Europe and hopes to further strengthen Japan-EU relation.
