Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Resettlement of Internally-Displaced Persons in Sri Lanka

  1. Japan appreciates the Government of Sri Lanka's continued efforts to facilitate the early resettlement of internally- displaced persons (IDPs) in the northern part of Sri Lanka, as seen in its recent announcement of return of more than 40,000 IDPs in the next few weeks. Japan strongly hopes that the Government of Sri Lanka will accelerate early resettlement of IDPs to their villages.
     
  2. Japan also expects that the Government of Sri Lanka will bring swift progress in the political process towards for national reconciliation.
     
  3. Japan will continue to support the Government of Sri Lanka in its efforts to address these challenges.
