- An exchange of notes between Japan and the Republic of Zambia concerning
the grant up to 37 million yen for “the Project for Improvement of Ndola
and Kitwe City Roads” was took place on January 30 (Fri) in Lusaka, the
capital of the Republic of Zambia. The signatories were H.E. Mr. Hideto
Mitamura, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, and the Honorable
Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, Minister of Finance and National Planning of
Zambia.
- In this Project, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing of Zambia
will improve about 24km of roads in total in Ndola and Kitwe City in Copperbelt
Province, the center of the country’s mining industry. It is expected
that this project will secure traffic safety, reduce transportation cost
and time, bolster the competitiveness of the country’s manufactured products,
and eventually contribute to invigorating the social and economic activities
of Zambia.
- Japan announced in the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) held last May that it would put the priority on infrastructure development, and this project is in line with its policy as road infrastructure is an essential basis for the country’s export industry and economic development in Zambia.
