Statement by the Press Secretary/ Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Situation in Zimbabwe (Signing of Agreement between the Ruling and Opposition Parties)

- The Government of Japan welcomes the agreement reached on 15th September
between the ruling and opposition parties of Zimbabwe. It highly values
the efforts made by all the parties concerned for the agreement.
- The international community including Japan has been concerned about the situation in Zimbabwe and continued discussions at the G8 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit. Japan continues to watch the situation in Zimbabwe while it strongly hopes that the present agreement will lead to stability of the situation and early improvement of the human rights situation in the country.
