August 14, 2008
Japanese

  1. Japan welcomes the agreement of Russia and Georgia to the ceasefire proposal over South Ossetia, and it regards this as the result of the efforts made by the international community, especially led by France (EU Chair Country).

  2. Japan expects this agreement to be implemented on the ground without fail.  Japan also considers it important that the territorial integrity of Georgia will be respected, and will continue to pay close attention to the situation there.

  3. Japan also continues to cooperate with the efforts made by the international community to create an atmosphere in which both sides can hold dialogue without escalating ethnic confrontation once again, for achieving a peaceful solution.
