Situation in Georgia (Mr. Tanizaki, Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau, makes representation to Mr. Galuzin at the Russian Embassy)

- In the afternoon of August 12, Mr. Yasuaki Tanizaki, Director-General
of the European Affairs Bureau, summoned Mr. Mikhail Galuzin, Chargé
d’Affaires at the Russian Embassy, to make a representation on Japan’s
stance concerning the situation in Georgia as expressed in the statement
by the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
- In response, Mr. Galuzin explained Russia’s position of using its right of self-defense necessary to protect civilians of Russian nationality and the Russian army. He also said that he would convey the representation made by the Japanese side to his country.
