Selection of Trainees for the Pilot Program for Human Resource Development in Asia for Peacebuilding

- The selection of 15 Japanese trainees for the Pilot Program for Human
Resource Development in Asia for Peacebuilding for FY2008 has been completed.
The fields of their expertise range widely, including Security Sector
Reform (SSR), Disarmament Demobilization Reintegration (DDR), governance,
promotion of reconciliation, humanitarian assistance, refugees, education,
children and youth development, environment, and community development.
The ages of the trainees vary from 24 to 39, and 2 male and 13 female
trainees were selected.
- As for the Asian trainees, a total of about 15 persons, including one
each from the ASEAN countries, will participate in the program. Those
who have already been selected belong to a variety of organizations such
as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, think tanks, and
NGOs.
- This program, in its second year, is intended to develop human resources in Japan and other Asian countries with the practical capabilities required when they are engaged in peacebuilding activities in various parts of the world. The trainees will undertake coursework for about a month and a half in Japan starting from August 25 (Mon) and then go through overseas attachment for 5-6 months at the maximum from October. This program is commissioned to Hiroshima University as in the last year, and the Hiroshima Peacebuilders Center (HPC), formed by the program secretariat at the University, is in charge of the management.
