Emergency Assistance to the Union of Myanmar (Provision of House Building Materials Including Galvanized Iron Sheets through the International Organization for Migration (IOM))

- The Government of Japan has decided to extend emergency assistance amounting
to three million U.S. dollars to the Union of Myanmar through the International
Organization for Migration (IOM) in response to the catastrophe caused by
a large-scale cyclone that struck the southern part of Myanmar.
- This assistance utilizes to implement an IOM-formulated housing-reconstruction
project for those who were affected by the cyclone disaster. Under
the project, house-building materials and tools including galvanized iron
sheets (about 160,000 sheets) will be provided for about 6,700 households
(about 33,000 people) in disaster-affected regions, especially Bogale City,
Pyapon City, and Mawlamyainegyun City in Ayeyarwaddy Division located in
the south-western part of Myanmar.
- This item is implemented by part of 10 million U.S. dollars which was expressed as an emergency assistance for the moment on May 9 (Wed), to be provided to Myanmar. This total use of the 10 million U.S. dollars will be completed by the project.
