Statement by Press Secretary / Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Election of a New President in Lebanon

Japan welcomes the election of the Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces, General. Michel Suleiman, as Lebanon’s new President through dialogues and consultations by all relevant parties, Japan considers it as an important step forward towards the stability in Lebanon.
Japan joins the celebration of the election with all the relevant parties in Lebanon, and highly appreciates the efforts made by all the countries concerned which had supported the election.
Japan hopes that the newly elected president will show strong leadership in ensuring Lebanon’s stability and political independence.
