Pilot Program for Human Resource Development in Asia for Peacebuilding (Call for Application for Japanese Trainees)
May 9, 2008
- On May 9, the Hiroshima Peacebuilders Center (HPC) started to accept
applications for 15 Japanese trainees who will participate in the FY2008
Pilot Program for Human Resource Development in Asia for Peacebuilding (closing
date for applications: June 16 (Mon), 5:00 p.m.). The selected trainees
will receive coursework in Tokyo and Hiroshima (conducted entirely in English)
from late August this year together with 15 trainees to be selected from
other Asian countries. They will then receive overseas on-the-job
training from October until March next year and will be provided with career
development support.
- This program, which started last fiscal year, is intended to develop
human resources in Japan and other Asian countries with the practical capabilities
necessary to extend on-site assistance in parts of the world where peacebuilding
is needed. This year’s program is the second of its kind. In
the first fiscal year, 15 out of 92 Japanese applicants were selected, and
14 Asian trainees were recommended by their respective governments. They
received training in Japan and overseas from September last year until March
this year. Continuing from the last fiscal year, this program will
be commissioned to Hiroshima University. The HPC, mainly formed by
the secretariat of the program at the University, will be in charge
of the management.
- The report of the first year’s program as well as outlines and application requirements for this year’s program are available on the HPC website.
