Observation of National Referendum on Draft Constitution by Diplomatic Corps in Myanmar

- The Government of Myanmar has notified that it would accept observers from
foreign embassies in Myanmar for the national referendum on draft constitution,
which will be held on May 10 (Sat) in Myanmar excluding areas where the
referendum will be postponed due to the damages caused by the cyclone.

The Government of Japan, in cooperation with other participating countries, will
dispatch three embassy officials to the national referendum to observe the
vote.
- The Government of Japan has repeatedly conveyed our message that the Government of Myanmar implement the national referendum in a fair and transparent manner, proposing an acceptance of international monitoring groups or observers from foreign embassies.
