Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Situation in Tibet (Contact and Dialogue between the People’s Republic of China and the 14th Dalai Lama side)

The Government of Japan highly evaluates the contact and consultation between the Chinese side and the special envoys of the 14th Dalai Lama which was held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province on May 4 (Sun) as a stepping stone to restart actual dialogue between parties concerned. Japan welcomes the news that both sides have agreed to contact each other again at an appropriate time, and expects that the meeting will bring about further results in the future.
