Implementation of Security Measures in Futenma Air Station

  1. Today (February 19 (Tue)), Japan and the U.S. agreed at the Japan-U.S. Joint Committee meeting that the Government of Japan would implement measures to improve functions of the aeronautical safety facilities including the installation of Runway End Identifier Lights at Futenma Air Station, and to enlarge the clear zone (no-obstacle area), as a part of security measures written in the Report on the Review of the Traffic Patterns and the Study of Possible Further Safety Measures Concerning Futenma Air Station, which was approved by the joint committee on August 10 last year.
     
  2. Further details of its implementation will be coordinated between the governments of Japan and the United States.
