Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Situation in Myanmar (Sentence of Imprisonment against Political Activists)

  1. In the light of the democratization and human rights situation in Myanmar, Japan is deeply concerned about the situation in Myanmar where many political activists who participated in demonstrations last year have been sentenced to long-term imprisonment.
     
  2. The Government of Japan has repeatedly urged the Government of Myanmar to release all political prisoners immediately and to promote the country’s democratization process in a way that involves all parties concerned.  The Government of Japan will continue to strongly urge Myanmar for its democratization.
