G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit Follow-up International Conference on Global Action for Health System Strengthening

- On 3 - 4 November, the Ministry of Foreign Affair co-hosted the International
Conference on Global Action for Health System Strengthening as a follow-up
to the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit, together with the Working Group on Challenges
in Global Health and Japan’s Contribution, Japan Center for International
Exchange, World Bank, World Health Organization, and Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation.
- Approximately 140 representatives from academia, development organizations
including the United Nations and governments from all over the world participated
in the Conference and discussed how the international community should approach
the important elements of health systems strengthening, namely, health information,
health financing and human resources (Programme attached). Mr. Hirofumi
Nakasone, the Minister for Foreign Affairs made an opening remark at the
dinner hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 3 November (Remark attached).
- One of the co-organizers, the Working Group on Challenges in Global Health and Japan’s Contribution, has established an international taskforce headed by Mr. Keizo Takemi, Research Fellow, Harvard School of Public Health. The Working Group will prepare a policy proposal to the G8 Health Experts based on the discussions in this International Conference.
