September 28, 2007

  1. The Government of Japan has decided to dispatch two staff members of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine as election observers to the International Election Observation Mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) to support the fair implementation of Ukraine’s Supreme Council (Parliament) elections, which are scheduled to take place on September 30 (Sun).

  2. The upcoming Supreme Council elections will be conducted before the term expires, against the background of an intensified conflict between ruling and opposition parties.  Fair implementation of the elections is extremely important for political stability in Ukraine.  The previous elections were held in March 2006.
