On August 16, Mr. Taro Aso, Minister for Foreign Affairs, sent a message of sympathy to Mr. Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde, Minister of Foreign Relations of the Republic of Peru, through the Embassy of Japan in Lima, on the major earthquake which struck Peru on August 15 at 18:40 Peru time, and caused severe damage mainly in Ica Department and the southern part of Lima Department.
