August 7, 2007

On August 6, from 4:40 p.m., Mr. Kenichiro Sasae, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. Alexander Losyukov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, exchanged views for about 30 minutes.

Both sides exchanged views on matters such as the present situation of the preparations for each working group of the Six-Party Talks to be held some time in August, the roadmap to be discussed at the Six-Party Talks in early September, and their views for the ministerial meeting to be held after the September Six-Party Talks. In order to hold productive discussions at the Six-Party Talks despite the difficulties that may occur in clarifying actions for “the next phase”, both sides confirmed the importance of maintaining close Japan-Russia coordination.
