Meeting between the Japan Coast Guard and the State Oceanic Administration of China

- The meeting between the Japan Coast Guard and the State Oceanic Administration
of China was held on July 20 (Fri) in Tokyo. The meeting was attended
on the Japanese side by Ms. Yuri Furusawa, Director, International Affairs
and Crisis Management Division, Japan Coast Guard, and Mr. Takeo Akiba,
Director, China and Mongolia Division, Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other officials from the Japan Coast
Guard and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and on the Chinese side by Ms.
Chen Yue, Deputy Director-General, Department of International Cooperation,
State Oceanic Administration, and other officials from the Administration
and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- The meeting was held based on the consensus reached at the Japan-China Consultations concerning the East China Sea and Other Matters to hold meetings between the Japan Coast Guard and the State Oceanic Administration, as the first step to enhance the two Government’s communication system as a whole prepared for unforeseeable circumstances in the East China Sea, while identifying each Government’s counterparts. At the meeting, mutual understanding was deepened through opinion exchange such as the explanations of each agency’s official duties.
