Senior Officials’ Meeting of Trilateral Strategic Dialogue among Japan, U.S. and Australia

- The Senior Officials’ Meeting of the Trilateral Strategic Dialogue among Japan, U.S. and Australia was held from 12:15 p.m. to 15:50 p.m. (US Eastern time) on July 2 (Japan time: 1:15 a.m. to 4:50 a.m. on July 3) in Washington, D.C. The Dialogue was attended on the Japanese side by Mr. Mitoji Yabunaka, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and other officials; on the U.S. side by Mr. R. Nicholas Burns, Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, and other officials; and on the Australian side by Mr. Michael L’Estrange, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and others.
- At the Dialogue, there was a candid discussion from a mid-and long-term standpoint on regional and international issues common to the three countries, such as Asia-Pacific affairs including North Korean issues, Middle Eastern affairs including issues of Iran, cooperation in counter-terrorism measures, and cooperation in the field of humanitarian assistance and disaster-relief activities.
- The three countries agreed on arranging to hold the third round of the Ministerial Meeting of Trilateral Strategic Dialogue on the occasion of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting in August.
