Joint Press Statement of Timor Leste’s Presidential Election

- As a presidential election in Timor Leste will take place on April 9 (Mon), the Government of Japan has decided to deliver a message to the international community with like-minded countries and an international institution. On April 5 (Thu), H.E. Mr. Kenji Shimizu, Ambassador of Japan to Timor Leste; Ms. Eleanor Nagy, Charge d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the United States of America; H.E. Mr. Joao Ramos Pinto, Ambassador of Portugal; H.E. Ms. Ruth Nuttall, Ambassador of New Zealand; and Mr. Miguel Amado, Special Representative of the European Commission, issued a joint press statement in Dili, the capital of Timor Leste.
- This joint press statement includes praise for this election as the first one conducted on Timor Leste’s initiative, and strong expectation that the presidential election would be held in a free, fair and peaceful manner. It also expressed the will of the like-minded countries and institution to continue cooperation with Timor Leste.
