Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Appointment of New Prime Minister of Guinea

- Japan welcomes the appointment of Mr. Lansana Kouyate, Côte d'Ivoire's Representative of the International Francophone Organization (OIF), as the new prime minister of Guinea on February 26 (Mon). Japan pays respect to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), neighboring countries and all other people concerned who have exerted efforts to bring about this appointment.
- Considering its old friendship with Guinea, Japan strongly hopes that the Government of Guinea, labor union members, citizens' groups and all other people concerned will make a concerted effort under the new prime minister toward the stabilization of the situation and the development of the economy and society of Guinea.
