Statement by Press Secretary /Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Attack on the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS)

- On September 29, there was an attack by an armed group at the site of
the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS), which has been working in Darfur
in the northwest of Sudan. Japan strongly condemns this attack as
it threatens efforts for the stability of Sudan and Africa in general. Japan
extends sincere sympathy for those who were killed and deepest condolences
to their families.
- While reiterating strong support for the efforts of the African Union and the United Nations to halt armed conflict, restore order and security, and improve the humanitarian situation, Japan calls on all the parties concerned to cooperate with these efforts.
