Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Establishment of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT)

The Government of Japan welcomes the unanimous adoption of a UN Security Council resolution to establish the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor- Leste (UNMIT) on August 25, 2006 in New York time.
The Government of Japan also hopes that the mission will support effectively the Timor-Leste's self efforts in nation building.
Japan will continue to support the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in nation building.
