Messages of Sympathy from Japan's Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs for the Victims of Large-scale Tsunami on the Southwest Coast of Java, Indonesia

- On July 18, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi expressed sympathy to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for the loss of many lives in the large-scale tsunami that hit the southwest coast of Java, caused by an earthquake which occurred on July 17 (Mon), saying that he hoped quick recovery and rehabilitation for all the victims. Prime Minister Koizumi also conveyed in his message that the Government of Japan decided on the same day to extend emergency assistance in kind equivalent to about 13 million yen and that he would spare no effort in extending utmost assistance in the future.
- Minister for Foreign Affairs Taro Aso sent a similar message to Minister of Foreign Affairs Noer Hasan Wirajuda on July 19.
