Handover Ceremony of Emergency Grant Aid Assistance Material for the Earthquake Disaster in Central Java, Republic of Indonesia

  1. Following the arrival of 200 tents for schools on June 8 (Thu), procured by emergency grant aid of the Government of Japan for the earthquake disaster which occurred on May 27 (Sat) in central Java of the Republic of Indonesia, the handover ceremony of the assistance materials took place on June 9 (Fri) in Bantul District, Jogjakarta Province. The ceremony was attended by embassy staff of the Government of Japan and representatives of Bantul District.
  2. The Government of Japan has decided to extend grant aid totalling ten million dollars for this earthquake disaster. The assistance materials which just arrived cost four million dollars, part of the grant aid. The tents will be distributed to the schools wrecked in the disaster, including those in Bantul District, as temporary classrooms. Additional donations in kind, such as tents for schools and dwellings, blankets and plastic sheets, are expected to arrive on site shortly.
  3. The Government of Japan is planning to extend further support for rehabilitation and restructuring in the future. It is also studying support in the field of education, taking into account the report of the team currently dispatched to investigate needs.
