Emergency Grant Aid in Response to Earthquake Disaster in Central Java, Republic of Indonesia

- In response to the earthquake disaster in Central Java, Republic of Indonesia, the Government of Japan on June 2 (Fri) decided to extend two kinds of emergency grant assistance as a part of grant assistance of 10 million US dollars that it had previously announced: (1) 444 million yen (4 million US dollars) to the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and (2) 111 million yen (1 million US dollars) to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
- The Government of Japan has decided to extend this emergency grant assistance for Indonesia, taking into account the need for the relief of the victims affected by the earthquake disaster as well as the friendly relations between the two countries.
- Prior to the decision, the Government of Japan had decided on providing Indonesia with emergency assistance in kind (tents and other materials) equivalent to about 20 million yen, and had also dispatched a Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team. In addition, Japan had decided to dispatch Japan's Self Defense Forces units as a Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team, considering that the medical needs remain high.
