Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Elections for the Heads of Local Governments in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province (Indonesia)

  1. Japan welcomes the peaceful election for the heads of local governments, smoothly conducted on December 11 (Mon) in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (Aceh Province).
  2. Japan, which has been assisting peace-building in Aceh for many years, expects that all the subsequent processes including ballot counting and tallying votes will proceed in due course and come to a smooth end, and that thereby sustainable peace in Aceh will be further consolidated through local administrations headed by those who will be elected this time through the democratic procedures.
