Emergency Grant Aid for the Mudslide Disaster caused by Typhoon "Reming" hitting Southern Luzon Island, the Republic of the Philippines

- On December 9 (Sat), the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency grant assistance up to one million US dollars (140 million yen) to the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, which suffered massive mudslides in southern Luzon Island on December 1. This decision was conveyed directly by Prime Minister Abe to President Arroyo at the Japan-Philippines Summit Meeting held in the morning of December 9 in Manila, and the President expressed her deepest gratitude.
- The Government of Japan has decided on this emergency grant aid for the Philippines, taking into account the need to relieve the victims of the mudslide disaster as well as the friendly relations between the two countries. The concrete items of the grant aid will be decided based on the needs of the affected area.
- Prior to this decision, on December 2 (Sat), the day after the disaster, Japan decided to provide the Philippines with emergency assistances in kind (tents, blankets and other things) equivalent to about 20 million yen, which were delivered to the Government of the Philippines in Pasay City on December 6.
