Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Assassination of Mr. Pierre Gemayel, Minister of Industry of Lebanon

The Government of Japan is deeply shocked by the act of terrorism in which Mr. Pierre Gemayel, Minister of Industry of Lebanon, was assassinated, just when political tension was rising in Lebanon. Such act can never be tolerated and the Government of Japan strongly condemns it.
The Government of Japan fully supports the efforts of Prime Minister Siniora and his government for the stability of Lebanon and strongly hopes that all the parties concerned in Lebanon, without resorting to violence but through dialogue and negotiations, will work for achieving stability and reconstruction in Lebanon as well as in the region.
