Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Stampede Deaths in Mecca, Saudi Arabia

I feel deep sorrow at the grievous loss of life among the Muslim pilgrims in the stampede that occurred on January 12 (Thu) in the outskirts of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The Government of Japan extends its heartfelt sympathy for those who died in the incident and sincere condolences to the bereaved families. The Government also expresses its heartfelt sympathy toward the injured and prays for their early recovery.
