Letters from Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Minister for Foreign Affairs Nobutaka Machimura on the Damage Caused by Hurricane Katrina in the South of the U.S.A.

On August 30, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi sent a letter to President George W. Bush, expressing deep condolences and sympathy on behalf of the people of Japan for the loss of lives and tremendous damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in the south of the U.S.A.
Similarly, Minister for Foreign Affairs Nobutaka Machimura sent a letter on the same day, conveying his feeling of sympathy to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (whose home state is Alabama, one of the states which sustained damage) and to the governors of the four states (Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco of Louisiana, Governor Jeb Bush of Florida, Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi, and Governor Bob Riley of Alabama) which suffered enormous damage from the disaster.
