Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the General Election for the Lebanese Parliament

  1. The Government of Japan welcomes that the general election for the Lebanese parliament, held from May 29 (Sun) to June 19 (Sun), was carried out, on the whole, in a free and fair manner.
  2. Political stability in Lebanon is indispensable for the stability of the Middle East. Japan has been closely watching the situation in Lebanon from the standpoint that Japan's prosperity is directly connected to the peace and stability in the Middle East. Japan hopes that the political process in Lebanon will proceed from now on in a manner which will bring about political stability in the country.
