Statement by the Chief Cabinet Secretary on the Visit to Europe by Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan

Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan made an official visit to the Kingdom of Norway.
Their Majesties also made a visit to Ireland on their way.
Their Majesties traveled for 8 days from 7th May, and returned to Japan on 14th safe and sound. During the visit, Their Majesties were received warmly as State-guests by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Regent Haakon and Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway.
Their Majesties were also accorded a State-guest level treatment by Irish President and Dr. McAleese.
They heartily enjoyed opportunities of exchanges with people of these countries.
It is truly a matter for congratulation that a great contribution has been made to the advancement of friendly relations between Japan and Norway, as well as Ireland.
Moreover, it is expected that, thanks to this visit, friendly relationship with those countries will be strengthened even further in future.
