Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Situation in Togo

Japan gives heed to the presidential election recently implemented in the Republic of Togo in accordance with the Constitution and also the inauguration of new president Faure Gnassingbe.
Japan respects the efforts exerted by the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for the resolution of the situation in Togo.
Japan also expects that the major political forces in Togo will find their way through dialogue for national reconciliation to democratize and stabilize the country.
