Dispatch of Ambassador on Special Mission to the Inauguration Ceremony of Pope Benedict XVI

Following the election of Pope Benedict XVI as the 265th Pope at Conclave held in Vatican on April 19 (Tue) afternoon (Japan time: 20th (Wed)), the Government of Japan, in view of its friendly relations with Vatican, has decided to dispatch Mr. Kabun Muto, Member of the House of Representatives (former Minister for Foreign Affairs), as Ambassador on Special Mission to the inauguration ceremony of Pope Benedict XVI to be held on April 24 (Sun) from 10:00 a.m. (Japan time: 5:00 p.m.) at St. Peter Basilica, Vatican.
