Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Situation in the Kyrgyz Republic

  1. The Government of Japan is closely observing the development of situation in the Kyrgyz Republic. The Government of Japan strongly expects that while the people of the Kyrgyz Republic try to emerge from the current confused political situation, and select their future course, all the parties concerned will refrain from use of force or destructive activities and cooperate in making efforts to peacefully settle this situation.

  2. The Government of Japan expects that endeavors in the Kyrgyz Republic for reform to establish democracy, rule of law and a market economy will continue to be promoted. The Government of Japan is ready to support and assist such efforts.

  3. The Government of Japan, strongly interested in maintaining and promoting stability and prosperity in Central Asia, is also prepared to make contribution as much as possible including one under the framework of the "Central Asia + Japan" dialogue which was launched last year.
