Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the General Elections in Bolivia

  1. General elections including a presidential election in Bolivia were held on December 18 (Sun) (Japan time: early morning, 19 (Mon)).
  2. The Government of Japan welcomes the fact that the general elections were carried out in a democratic and peaceful manner. The Government of Japan hopes that each Bolivian social sector as a whole will continue making its efforts to enhance political and social stability as well as strengthen democracy.
  3. Japan will continue to extend its active assistance for the effort of the people of Bolivia aimed at stability and development.
